Avishkar is a six-month cohort-based accelerator for emerging tech startups, facilitated by CIE@IIITH. The accelerator brings together the deeptech expertise of IIITH’s research labs and technology mentoring opportunities that help startups. Avishkar recently brought onboard eSkindoctor Healthtech that focuses on dermatology by using artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning algorithms.

Mumbai-based eSkindoctor Healthtech is focused on dermatology and is using AI and Deep Learning algorithms to address skin healthcare. Often times, and especially in rural India, where good healthcare is hard to access – skin problems are most often overlooked; one of the reasons is that the number of dermatologists in India as compared to the population is miniscule.

The founders of eSkindoctor, Arun – a graduate from IIM-A, Naveen – a graduate from BITS Pilani, and Anand – a graduate from XIM, believe that technology can help to fill in this gap in healthcare and assist patients to connect with the right doctor at the right time. eskindoctor.com is a platform that allows patients to understand their skin condition and access qualified-dermatologists to help them – no matter where they are. The platform is driven by expanding skin disease diagnosis and management with AI, improving both effectiveness and the accuracy of care.

Patients can access eskindoctor.com on their mobile devices – a phone or laptop, upload a photo of the affected area, give details of their complaints by answering a few questions, and then, based on the data provided by the patient, they are guided by the AI tool to a dermatologist on the platform. At present, the tool accurately identifies around a 100 skin conditions, from common to rare skin diseases, in India. eSkindoctor plans to expand their customer base as well as have their product reach global markets soon.
