Male facelifts rise 26 per cent as men seek subtle midlife refresh

Male facelifts rise 26% as men seek subtle midlife refresh

Male face and neck lifts increased by 26 per cent in the UK in 2024, according to new figures from BAAPS.

The rise comes as more men explore cosmetic procedures during their forties and fifties. Many now seek subtle changes rather than dramatic transformations.

Male cosmetic procedures show mixed results

The latest BAAPS audit recorded 1,799 cosmetic procedures among men in the UK. Men accounted for 6.5 per cent of all cosmetic procedures during the period. Overall, cosmetic surgery procedures increased by five per cent across the UK. However, the number of cosmetic procedures among men declined slightly.

Despite that decline, male face and neck lifts recorded significant growth. The figures suggest stronger interest in structural facial rejuvenation among middle-aged men. Men continue to choose several other cosmetic procedures across the UK. Rhinoplasty ranked first, with 332 procedures recorded during the year.

Upper eyelid surgery followed closely, with 320 procedures. Male breast reduction ranked third, with 248 procedures. Otoplasty accounted for 224 procedures, while surgeons performed 198 liposuction procedures among male patients.

Men increasingly want natural-looking results

CREO Clinic says Botox remains a common starting point for men exploring cosmetic treatments. However, some patients now prefer surgical options with longer-lasting results. Surgeons report growing interest in procedures targeting the eyes, jawline and neck. These procedures can address specific areas without creating a dramatic overall change.

According to CREO Clinic, many male patients want to look refreshed rather than significantly younger. They often want to reduce a tired appearance while maintaining their natural features. The clinic says men increasingly approach cosmetic procedures as personal investments. It also reports that many patients no longer feel the need to hide their decisions.

Dr Omar Tillo, a plastic surgeon at CREO Clinic, said patients increasingly want natural-looking results. He said patients want to preserve masculine facial features while improving definition and freshness.

Lifestyle changes influence cosmetic choices

The clinic also links the trend to changing lifestyles among middle-aged men. Many professionals now appear regularly on high-definition video calls.

Some also remain socially active later in life. These factors may encourage some men to consider changes to their appearance.

However, patients generally seek understated improvements rather than major transformations.

Research plays a bigger role in treatment decisions

CREO Clinic says today’s male patients also conduct extensive research before pursuing procedures. Many spend months researching surgeons, procedures and recovery before booking consultations.

The clinic says some men now prefer one carefully planned procedure over repeated smaller treatments. This approach may reduce the need for ongoing cosmetic maintenance. The growing interest in male facelifts reflects changing attitudes towards cosmetic surgery.

For some men, the focus has shifted from looking younger to looking refreshed and confident. The trend also highlights the broader growth of men’s interest in aesthetic treatments. Changing social attitudes may make cosmetic procedures less gendered over time.

Individual preferences now increasingly shape decisions about appearance and cosmetic treatment.
