Dr. Manu S Walia discussing new opportunities and challenges in aesthetic medicine.
Dr. Manu S Walia shares insights on the booming field of aesthetic medicine, highlighting growth opportunities, challenges, and the role of AI.

Aesthetic medicine is currently a flourishing industry. It’s all because people are becoming more aware, non-invasive technologies are getting better, and social media has a big influence.

This growth means there are so many opportunities for new practitioners to jump in and make their mark. As the demand for skilled professionals goes up, young talents have a lot of options for careers where they can do well.

To explain better, Dr Manu S Walia, Head of Dermatology, Myrah Derma Med, offers a convincing picture of opportunities for practitioners. Keep reading as she also discusses her early struggles and the value of persistence, education, and ethics in career success.

On Current Opportunities

The field of aesthetic medicine is currently experiencing rapid growth, presenting abundant opportunities for emerging practitioners.

Factors contributing to this growth include heightened public awareness of skin and hair health and advancements in non-invasive technologies. Also, widespread acceptance of aesthetic treatments is influenced in part by social media.

These dynamics have significantly increased the demand for skilled professionals in the field. Continuous advancements and innovations in treatment options are expanding the industry, offering a broad scope for young practitioners to explore and excel in their careers.

On Career Motivation and Mentorship

My motivation to pursue aesthetic medicine stems from a deep interest in dermatology and a passion for artistry, believing that combining these disciplines enhances patient confidence and well-being.

Witnessing the transformative impact of aesthetic treatments during my medical training, particularly in addressing concerns like acne marks, pigmentation, and hair loss, solidified my commitment. The positive changes I observed in patient’s lives and their increased self-confidence further motivated me in this field.

While I do not have one specific mentor, continuous learning and industry connections have been instrumental. Engaging in professional activities and learning from colleagues has fuelled my ongoing growth and commitment to excellence in aesthetic medicine.

On Initial Challenges in Aesthetics

When I first started practising aesthetic medicine, one of the primary challenges I faced was establishing a solid patient base and building trust within the competitive industry. To overcome this, I dedicated myself to extensive training and mastering new and evolving techniques and technologies.

Continuous learning and adaptation were crucial, and I actively engaged in training programmes, interacted with experienced colleagues, and attended industry conferences to stay updated and connected.

For new practitioners, I emphasise the importance of persistence, patience, ongoing education, and maintaining strong professional ethics and networks. Building a patient base takes time, and practising under strong medical ethics ensures long-term success, both for newcomers and established practitioners alike.

On Future of AI in Aesthetic Practice

In envisioning the future of aesthetic medicine with AI technology, there are clear advantages and challenges to consider. AI enhances precision and efficiency in treatments by analysing patient data and predicting outcomes accurately, particularly in diagnostic imaging and advanced technologies.

However, ethical concerns and the need for human empathy remain critical. Data privacy and maintaining a personalised patient-care approach are paramount, areas where AI may fall short.

Balancing these technological advancements with the human touch is essential for achieving optimal patient outcomes and ethical practice standards in aesthetic medicine.
