Galderma has reported positive results from a clinical study of Restylane Volyme in Chinese patients with temple hollowing. The company said the study showed high effectiveness, patient satisfaction and a strong safety profile.
Study evaluates effectiveness in 162 patients
The randomised, evaluator-blinded study involved 162 adults across six sites in China. Researchers divided participants into treatment and no-treatment groups using a 2:1 allocation.
The study assessed the effectiveness and safety of Restylane Volyme for moderate-to-severe temple hollowing. The primary endpoint was met, according to Galderma.
At month six, 94.4 per cent of treated patients showed at least one-grade improvement in both temples. Only 2.0 per cent of patients in the control group achieved the same outcome.
Responder rates remained high among treated patients through month 12.
Patients reported high satisfaction through 12 months
Treating investigators reported improvement on the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale in 91.3 per cent of patients through month 12.
More than 84 per cent of patients remained satisfied with the treatment’s natural look and feel. More than 90 per cent said they would recommend the treatment to others. More than 86 per cent said they would undergo the treatment again. Around half of the patients also felt comfortable returning to social activities within 24 hours.
Study reports a favourable safety profile
Galderma reported no treatment-related serious adverse events during the study. Researchers also reported no granulomas among treated patients.
The company said the findings add clinical evidence for Restylane Volyme in treating temple hollowing. The results may also support efforts to expand Galderma’s Restylane portfolio in China.
Restylane Volyme targets temple volume loss
Temple hollowing can occur as facial volume decreases with age. Medication-associated weight loss may also accelerate changes in facial volume. Restylane Volyme uses Galderma’s Optimal Balance Technology, or OBT, gel technology.
The moderately soft and flexible gel aims to support natural-looking results. The treatment can also use a dual-layer technique involving both a needle and cannula.
Professor Zhao Hongyi said temple hollowing remains common among patients seeking aesthetic treatment. He also noted that treatment options remain limited in China. According to Zhao, the study showed effective and natural-looking correction alongside high patient satisfaction.
Findings support Galderma’s China strategy
Baldo Scassellati Sforzolini, Galderma’s global head of research and development, highlighted the findings. He said the results strengthen the clinical evidence supporting the company’s aesthetic portfolio.
Galderma also identified China as an important and rapidly growing aesthetics market. The company has developed Restylane for more than three decades.
Its portfolio has supported more than 77 million treatments globally, according to Galderma. The company published the study results on September 16, 2026.
