The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) provided detailed statistics on aesthetic procedures worldwide at the organisation’s recent World Congress in Cartagena.
Surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments grew by 3.4 per cent from the previous year to reach 34.9 million in 2023. Global aesthetic enhancement is evident in this growth.
Analysing the data of the last four years, it is possible to observe an increase in such procedures by 40 per cent. Due to the global tendency for surgical and non-surgical cosmetic operations, this increase is significant.
ISAPS’s analysis indicates current trends indicating that the aesthetic procedure market is robust and growing because of technical advances, beauty standard modifications, and global availability.
Surging surgical procedures
Surgical procedures rose by 5.5 per cent, which means that over 15.8 million operations were done by plastic surgeons. With 2.2 million treatments, liposuction was the most popular. Breast augmentation, eyelid surgery, abdominoplasty, and rhinoplasty were next in line.
Notably, the number of procedures on the face and head went up by 19.6 per cent.
Non-surgical innovations
A significant rise was also seen in non-surgical treatments, which now account for 19.1 million procedures worldwide. Along with hair removal, non-surgical skin tightening, and fat reduction, botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid lead.
Gender and age dynamics
People of all ages and genders showed changes in their choice of treatment. Liposuction became the most popular surgery among women, while surgery on the eyelids became more popular among men.
Notably, 53.7 per cent of breast augmentations and 65.8 per cent of rhinoplasties were done on people between the ages of 18 and 34. People between the ages of 35 and 50 were more likely to get botulinum toxin injections.
Moreover, the US had the most treatments, with 6.1 million. Brazil came in second, with 3.3 million. As a result, their significance in the world of aesthetic treatments is being emphasised.
Expert opinions
Dr Gianluca Campiglio, Global Survey Editor, highlighted the growing acceptance and demand for aesthetic procedures worldwide.
He noted a significant rise in male aesthetic surgeries, particularly in facial enhancements, reflecting shifting societal norms and aspirations for self-improvement.
Future outlook
The results from ISAPS 2023 gives a full picture of how trends and tastes in aesthetic procedures are changing around the world. As technology keeps getting better and easier to get, the field of cosmetic surgery and non-surgical improvements will continue to grow and change.
Through this in-depth analysis by ISAPS, we can better understand the forces that are changing the aesthetic industry. This will help everyone involved make smart choices and plans as the market evolves.
