Dr Sandeep Sharma earned international recognition by delivering the presidential address at the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) annual conference in London. He became the first Indian surgeon to hold this prestigious role, highlighting India’s growing expertise and influence in global aesthetic plastic surgery.
Leading the Indian delegation
Dr Sandeep, founder of Aesthetique Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Centre, also served as a faculty member at the October 2–3 conference. He led a 30-member Indian delegation representing the Indian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (IAAPS).
The team included top surgeons such as Dr Aditya Aggarwal, Dr Milind Wagh, Dr Venkatramana, and Dr Rajat Gupta from across India. Together, they showcased India’s growing expertise and strengthened international collaboration.
Showcasing India-UK academic ties
Dr Sandeep highlighted the longstanding academic links between India and the UK. Drawing on his two-year fellowship experience at London hospitals, he shared key insights from his training. He emphasised that such knowledge exchange is crucial for bringing world-class techniques and safer procedures to patients in India.
He also shared insights into the unique characteristics of Indian skin, explaining how it heals differently. Additionally, he stressed the importance of customised cosmetic procedures that consider variations in skin tone, texture, and healing patterns for optimal patient outcomes.
Pioneering cosmetic surgery in Gujarat
Building on his extensive experience of over 25 years, Dr Sandeep Sharma has expanded access to advanced cosmetic surgery in Gujarat, blending clinical expertise with patient-focused care. At the BAAPS conference, he discussed emerging trends in India, noting a sharp rise in demand. Women increasingly seek post-pregnancy treatments, while men show growing interest in hair transplants and gynaecomastia correction.
Engaging with global experts
Furthermore, the Indian delegation actively engaged with global peers, participating in workshops and discussions on the latest techniques. Their presence reinforced India’s commitment to advancing medical standards and fostering collaboration with leading international experts.
