A two-day conference on follicular unit extraction (FUE) hair transplant techniques began at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH). The Department of Plastic Surgery organised the event to discuss advances in hair restoration and reconstructive procedures.
Experts from across India attended the conference and shared insights on surgical innovations. The event featured live demonstrations, lectures, and scientific sessions covering multiple aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery.
Live workshop demonstrates FUE procedure
During a live workshop, Mumbai-based specialist Rajesh Rajput demonstrated the FUE hair transplant procedure. He explained that hair loss affects nearly 80 per cent of men worldwide. He described FUE as a technique that transfers hair follicles from permanent zones to bald or thinning areas.
FUE is a minimally invasive procedure that extracts individual hair follicles and implants them into affected areas. Surgeons perform the process under local anaesthesia, ensuring minimal discomfort and faster recovery. The method avoids large incisions and leaves only tiny, less visible scars.
Growing demand for minimally invasive techniques
Speakers highlighted the growing popularity of FUE due to its natural-looking results and shorter healing time. The technique allows surgeons to restore hair density while maintaining a realistic hairline. Experts noted that careful execution and surgical expertise remain critical for successful outcomes.
Sessions cover wider reconstructive procedures
The conference also addressed other reconstructive and cosmetic procedures. RB Ahuja from Maulana Azad Medical College spoke about surgical options for palatal fistula. Lokesh Kumar from Apollo Hospital discussed gynaecomastia, while Lalit Makhija presented techniques for perforator flaps in lower limbs.
Rakesh Khazanchi from Medanta elaborated on breast augmentation procedures. Other sessions focused on intraoral reconstruction, orbital reconstruction, and hand reimplantation. Experts also discussed corrective procedures such as bat ear surgery.
Focus on continuous learning and collaboration
The event emphasised the importance of continuous learning in plastic surgery. Specialists highlighted the need to adopt advanced techniques to improve patient outcomes. They encouraged collaboration among surgeons to share knowledge and refine skills.
Participants engaged in discussions on emerging trends and clinical challenges. The sessions aimed to enhance understanding of both aesthetic and reconstructive procedures. Organisers stated that such conferences play a key role in advancing medical practice.
The conference will continue with additional workshops and expert talks. It is expected to provide further insights into modern surgical techniques and innovations in patient care.
