Do you know Maharashtra is raising concerns about beauty and skincare clinics’ legitimacy? Since unqualified people are doing invasive treatments, the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) is now taking action. They are targeting fake hydrafacial and laser centres across Pune and beyond with this legal action.

The MMC is taking strong steps to protect customers and ensure aesthetic treatments are safe and performed by qualified professionals. Many of these places are run by people who lack medical training.

The MMC’s stand

President of the MMC, Dr Vinky Rughwani, pointed out the severity of the situation. A lot of these skincare clinics are run by people without medical degrees. Licensed experts should perform hydra facials and other invasive procedures.

The MMC is getting a lot of reports from Pune, Mumbai, and other places. It shows that the unchecked growth of these centres has turned into an epidemic across the whole state. Such misleading practices are not only grave criminal violations but also a major risk to public health.

FDA’s response and industry concerns

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has come under criticism for its delay in addressing the problem. FDA Commissioner Girish Hukare in Pune was particularly uninformed and asked the media to help highlight the problem. In the medical community, the lack of monitoring has caused alarm.

Prominent plastic surgeon Dr Sumit Saxena has voiced concerns about shutting down beauty salons and clinics offering unlicensed treatments. He pointed out that these fake clinics are most common in places like Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar. He asked the authorities to act fast to fix the problem.

Dr Sumit cautioned about the risks of unlicensed Botox procedures, which require professional handling to prevent potentially fatal consequences.

Risks and the requirement for control

Misusing hydra-facials and other invasive treatments by people who aren’t qualified to do them brings big health risks. Hydra facials clean the skin, not whiten it so any improper use can lead to serious side effects or even death.

In response, the MMC plans a major operation to identify fraudulent medical centres and set clear rules for legal operations.

Future actions and industry impact

According to Dr Vinky, the MMC is creating strong rules to help people find credible practitioners and avoid fraudulent centres.

The MMC is also collaborating with local governments and the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to combat fraudulent activity. Also, ensure that people who don’t follow the rules face severe penalties.

With the increasing demand for cosmetic treatments on social media, we need more regulation and attention than ever. The MMC plays a crucial role in protecting public health and ensuring that qualified experts perform beauty procedures.
