Dr. Manasi Shirolikar, a leading dermatologist, discussing the impact of AI on aesthetic medicine.
Dr. Manasi Shirolikar shares insights on how AI is transforming aesthetic care, from diagnostics to personalized treatments.

AI is creating waves in the constantly changing field of aesthetic medicine since it has the potential to revolutionise the sector. It promises to improve overall patient outcomes, personalise treatment regimens to each patient’s needs, and increase diagnostic accuracy.

It can also streamline administrative work like appointment scheduling and follow-ups, letting practitioners focus on patient care.

Dr Manasi Shirolikar, Consultant Dermatologist and Founder of online consulting brand Dr Manasi Skin Clinic and Kalpana Nursing Home, Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh shares thoughts and embraces technology. She addresses top client concerns during online consultations.

From acne to hair fall, she stresses the importance of personalised care and patient education to build trust and ensure realistic expectations.

On Artificial Intelligence’s Role in Aesthetic Medicine

Artificial Intelligence can enhance diagnostic accuracy, personalise treatment plans, and improve patient outcomes. It can also streamline administrative tasks, appointment scheduling, and patient follow-ups, allowing practitioners to focus more on patient care.

From a challenges perspective, over-reliance on AI could lead to potential errors if the technology fails or is not properly supervised. Human oversight remains essential to validate AI recommendations.

And of course, the use of AI involves handling large amounts of patient data, raising concerns about data privacy and security which must be managed first.

On Top Client Concerns & Advice

A majority of my consultations are online. During my online consultations, the most common concerns patients express are acne, melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hair fall, and the desire to build a personalised skincare routine. We are all already aware of the protocols and available treatment options for these.

However, I find it important to take the time to educate patients about their skin concerns and the rationale behind recommended treatments. Also, most importantly realistic expectations for results which build trust and confidence in the treatment plan.

I emphasise the importance of follow-up consultations to track progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. Each patient’s concerns and skin type are unique, so I tailor my advice and treatment recommendations to meet their individual needs.

This personalised approach fosters patient satisfaction and confidence in the outcomes.

On Proposed Change in Aesthetics

The change would be to integrate comprehensive, standardised education and training programmes specifically focused on the safe and effective use of injectables, such as botulinum toxin and fillers.

This will help us ensure better safety and treatment outcomes for the patient and increase patient compliance. Such programs will also provide a clear pathway for professional development and continuous learning, helping practitioners stay up-to-date with advancements in the field.
