Women in Bengaluru increasingly opt for cosmetic surgery to create dimples. Local plastic surgeons report procedures can cost up to ₹60,000.
The procedure, called dimpleplasty, is gaining renewed popularity across Bengaluru. Women aged 20 to 40 drive this resurgence after interest declined over a decade ago.
Social media and celebrities drive enquiries
Doctors report a steady rise in enquiries as social media and celebrity culture shape beauty standards. Many patients bring celebrity photos showing natural dimples or appealing facial features. Dimples, once linked to older film stars, now inspire younger women influenced by Bollywood and regional cinema.
Plastic surgeons report demand has steadily increased over the past few years.
Private hospitals and cosmetic clinics now receive three to four dimple surgery enquiries monthly. Clinics offer the procedure under local anaesthesia, typically completed within one to two hours.
Risks and Safety Considerations
Surgeons warn that dimple creation carries risks such as swelling, bruising, numbness, and possible oral infections. Specialists advise maintaining proper post-operative oral hygiene to prevent complications. Medical professionals note surgically created dimples may appear more prominent than intended, even when not smiling.
Dr Venkatesh MS from Ramaiah Memorial Hospital explained cosmetic procedures cannot perfectly replicate another person’s features. He emphasised that patients should manage expectations and understand surgery benefits and limitations.
Experts report dimple surgery costs vary by clinic, surgeon experience, and technique, typically ranging from Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000. Patients often pay more for highly experienced surgeons or customised results to achieve the desired look.
Broader Cosmetic Trends
Experts highlighted that interest in surgical dimples reflects wider trends in subtle facial enhancements. Some pursue aesthetics to boost confidence or appearance, while others aim to match popular beauty ideals.
Movies, social media influencers, and advertising heavily influence decisions to undergo dimple creation.
Medical specialists advise practitioners to guide patients through thorough pre-procedure research. They recommend emphasising consultation with certified professionals and carefully evaluating aesthetic objectives against potential surgical risks.
