AIIMS Patna and the Bihar & Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association completed a two-day rhinoplasty workshop on December 6 and 7. National authorities and regional practitioners refined advanced nasal reconstruction and aesthetic surgery techniques at this high-level training platform.
Prof. Brig. (Dr) Raju Agarwal, Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, officially inaugurated the proceedings. He joined a distinguished panel of national experts, including Dr P. S. Bhandari (New Delhi), Dr Rajiv Agarwal (Lucknow), and Dr Venkata Yamini (Hyderabad). Dr Veena Kumari Singh, Head of Department at AIIMS Patna and Vice-President of the Bihar–Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association, spearheaded the initiative.
Live surgical demonstrations and clinical applications
The core of the workshop focused on three live rhinoplasty procedures performed on female patients, each presenting unique clinical challenges. Dr Bhandari and Dr Rajiv Agarwal led these surgeries, transforming theoretical knowledge into practical application.
Surgeons corrected two childhood trauma deformities and reconstructed one broad, thick nasal structure during the workshop. As the surgeons operated, they provided real-time commentary, explaining intricate procedural steps and decision-making processes. These live sessions were complemented by detailed lectures covering the latest global trends and safety protocols in plastic surgery.
National collaboration and technical support
To maximise the reach of the training, the organisers hosted a national webinar alongside the physical event. Digital integration enabled Indian surgeons to observe surgeries, join Q&A sessions, and engage experts in real time.
The success of the complex procedures relied on a multidisciplinary team. Dr Veena Kumari Singh directed the organisational efforts with support from Dr Ansarul Haq, Dr Sarsij Sharma, Dr Vishwadeep, and Dr Kuldeep. The anaesthesia department, represented by Dr Chandni, Dr Nishant, and Dr Abhyuday, ensured patient safety throughout the long procedures.
Strengthening regional medical standards
Senior Patna plastic surgeons, including Dr B. K. Sharma, Dr Sanjay Gupta, and Dr Rampukar, attended the workshop. Their participation, alongside resident doctors, created a rich environment for mentorship and professional networking.
AIIMS Patna elevates regional medical standards by prioritising practical training and open knowledge exchange. This initiative equips local surgeons with cutting-edge skills and ensures patients access to world-class reconstructive and aesthetic outcomes.
