Allergan Aesthetics reveals insights on medical weight loss (MWL) and evolving patient expectations. The data shows how weight-loss treatments influence demand for aesthetic procedures.
Medical weight loss treatments gain attention
MWL programmes, including GLP-1 medications, help patients achieve significant weight reductions under medical supervision. These treatments are driving a new demographic seeking aesthetic care.
Many patients experience midface volume loss, skin laxity, and deeper wrinkles after significant weight loss. These changes often prompt a desire for facial rejuvenation.
Allergan Aesthetics reveals more patients want aesthetic treatments post-MWL. They aim to align their facial appearance with overall physical transformation.
Shifting patient goals
Research shows 67 per cent of MWL patients expand goals beyond weight loss, seeking improvements in facial appearance after achieving their weight targets.
Clinicians note increased questions about facial volume and rejuvenation during consultations. Midface volume loss affects 61 percent of patients, skin laxity 50 percent, and wrinkles 35 per cent.
Patients often explore non-surgical options to restore facial balance. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers remain highly recommended, benefiting nearly 47 percent of MWL patients. About 81 percent of clinicians endorse fillers for post-weight-loss facial concerns.
Integration of weight loss and aesthetic care
Clinics are increasingly offering both medical weight loss and aesthetic services together. Currently, 60 percent of GLP-1 users access both services from the same provider, up from 49 percent in late 2024.
Experts anticipate further integration of wellness, weight management, and aesthetic care. Around 40 percent of MWL patients now consider professional aesthetic treatments at clinics or medical spas.
Rapid weight loss affects facial structure differently for each patient. Industry leaders emphasise tailoring treatment plans to meet diverse post-MWL needs.
Ongoing research and future trends
Allergan Aesthetics continues studying this patient group to provide data-driven guidance. As MWL treatments expand, aesthetic clinics are preparing for rising patient demand.
